General Assistant - Hospitality


Pay Rate: £13.45ph + Holiday Pay (HP) = £15.07ph

Hours: School catering shifts are typically available Monday to Friday. The number of shifts offered will vary depending on client requirements, with some weeks offering one shift or day of work and others offering multiple shifts throughout the week.

Location: Various school locations across Perth, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Work locations will vary depending on available assignments.

Essential Requirement: You must hold a current PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) Scheme membership to be considered for this role. A PVG is Scotland's safeguarding check for individuals working with children or protected adults.


Job Summary

We are looking for a friendly, reliable, and hardworking General Assistant to join our hospitality team. The successful candidate will provide support across the day-to-day operation of the business, helping to ensure guests receive a welcoming, professional, and high-quality experience.

This is a varied role involving customer service, food and beverage support, housekeeping, cleaning, and general operational duties. The ideal candidate will be flexible, approachable, and willing to assist wherever needed.


Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome and assist guests in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Provide excellent customer service throughout the guest experience.
  • Assist with food and beverage service, including taking orders, serving food and drinks, and clearing tables.
  • Prepare dining and service areas before, during, and after service.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and presentation throughout the premises.
  • Assist with housekeeping duties, including cleaning guest and public areas where required.
  • Replenish supplies, stock, and guest amenities.
  • Assist with receiving, storing, and rotating deliveries and stock.
  • Support kitchen and front-of-house teams with general duties as required.
  • Set up and clear down rooms and areas for functions, meetings, and events.
  • Follow all food safety, health and safety, and company procedures.
  • Deal with guest requests and queries promptly and professionally, escalating issues to a supervisor or manager when necessary.
  • Work effectively as part of a team and provide support to colleagues during busy periods.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties required to support the smooth running of the hospitality operation.


Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience in hospitality, customer service, catering, or a similar environment is desirable but not essential.
  • A friendly, positive, and professional approach.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a busy environment.
  • Good attention to detail and high standards of cleanliness.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexible approach to duties and working hours, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays where required.
  • Reliable, punctual, and well presented.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
